Airdrie Techmation Thunder Appoint a New Bench Boss
The Airdrie Techmation Thunder will be heading into the 2017-2018 season with a new bench boss who isn’t exactly a new comer to the hockey scene in Airdrie.. Coming out of last season with a Midget AA South Central Hockey League North Division Championship under his belt, Derek Stamp has been appointed the Techmation Thunder’s newest head coach.
“ I am excited and optimistic,” says Stamp. “I am very grateful for the opportunity and feel a definite synergy between my coaching philosophy and the direction the Thunder Board/Executive wants to move in,” he continues. Stamp is an Airdrie resident and Airdrie business owner. “To be given the chance to have an impact with a local team like the Thunder, one with a lot of hockey history in the community is very exciting.”
In addition to coaching AA in Airdrie, Stamp has extensive experience behind the bench for notable AAA teams around the Calgary area. Stamp has become known for creating programs built on process, development and achievements on and off the ice.
Stamp isn’t naïve in his thinking. He knows that the upcoming season will have it’s challenges and he’s ready to meet those head on.. “The vision I presented to the Thunder Board includes some changes to the “way things have always been done” and change can be uncomfortable. Obviously I see the value of these changes in helping the long term growth of the Thunder program and my first priority is to meet with potential players, outline this vision, let them know what they can expect of me and outline what will be expected of them. Making sure we are all on the same page when we show up for training camp is important.”
